Training - Can You Afford Not To?

Amanda Brayshaw, Business Support Worker at Voluntary Action Leeds, writes about the benefits of training for groups.

£20 note

Voluntary Action Leeds manages a Training Programme with courses specifically selected to be beneficial to third sector organisations (such as charities and non-profit enterprises) but are open to anyone. Training courses look at various topics and can help organisations to develop the skills to manage the organisation and take it to the next level.

What is coming up? We have a great course coming up soon which could be of huge benefit to your group:

28 August 2014: Applying to Awards for All – A Complete Guide

This course opens up fantastic opportunities to groups by giving them the information and skills to apply to Awards for All which is a Big Lottery Fund grant. A successful application will result in a grant of up to £10K. Kathy Faulks, Support Worker (Group Development) at VAL will explain how Awards for All is funding for a project with a beginning and an end - it is not intended for revenue costs. Please come along to this course with an idea for a project. Imagine how a grant could help your organisation!

OK, so you have found a course you think would benefit your group but do not have the funds to send a member of the team. No problem - Voluntary Action Leeds offer training bursaries. If your group has an annual income of under £20,000 you can apply for a training bursary which can cover up to £40 of the course fee. The question is - can you afford not to attend?
