I would like to introduce myself as the new Prisoner and Ex Offender Youth Volunteering Worker here at Voluntary Action Leeds. The Service – Giving Time
I'm now five weeks into this exciting role and the service is taking off! The focus of the project is supporting young offenders and young people who may be at risk of offending into exciting volunteering placements. The young people can be between the ages of 10 to 17 and live in Leeds. This service complements the existing project Giving Time that supports adults aged 18+ and is managed my Laura Elson.
My professional background stands me in good stead to take on this project. My youth work career has spanned over 15 years and I began my career as a volunteer in a local youth centre in Manchester. My volunteering experience had a huge impact on my life, it increased my confidence, skill set, introduced me to many new people and strengthened my career opportunities. I guess this is why I'm so passionate about volunteering! More recently I have taught an accredited youth work training programme and managed a team of excellent volunteers. One of my career highlights involved taking a group of volunteers to Pakistan to exchange approaches to youth action with young people from different regions of the country.
Away From VAL
Outside of work I see myself as a squirrel! I adore vintage, retro and antique furniture, I think this is down to my fascination for social history. Sadly I am running out of space at home and really should reduce my collections!
