The ultimate responsibility rests (as always) with the trustees to make the right decision and treat the relationship appropriately – in terms of worker’s rights, tax, holidays, etc – but no-one wants to see their group in peril due to an ill-informed judgement about employment status.
So what factors need to be taken into account? Come to a short session at Stringer House (and admire the new windows) on Tuesday 2nd June 10-12noon, for only a tenner and learn. The session will be led by Anne Gilchrist of the Pay & Employment Rights Service (PERS).
This is frequently an issue when WYCAS prepare accounts and I would strongly urge all groups who regularly pay for labour to come along. Better safe than sorry!
