When is an employee NOT an employee?

Make no bones about it, this is a complicated business, with serious legal and financial consequences if you get it wrong. Claire Welling from WYCAS explains more.

The ultimate responsibility rests (as always) with the trustees to make the right decision and treat the relationship appropriately – in terms of worker’s rights, tax, holidays, etc – but no-one wants to see their group in peril due to an ill-informed judgement about employment status.

So what factors need to be taken into account?  Come to a short session at Stringer House (and admire the new windows) on Tuesday 2nd June 10-12noon, for only a tenner and learn.  The session will be led by Anne Gilchrist of the Pay & Employment Rights Service (PERS).

This is frequently an issue when WYCAS prepare accounts and I would strongly urge all groups who regularly pay for labour to come along.  Better safe than sorry!

Book your place via the Training Directory - look for the 2nd June training.
