The stable door has been left open

The Governance Academy is bemused that the Charity Commission is opening consultation in respect of legislation that has already received Royal assent.

Maybe this is sour grapes on the part of the Governance Academy! The purpose of the consultation is to gauge the sector's opinion on the new powers the Charity Commission has in respect of the Charities (Protection and Social Investment) Act 2016 to disqualify trustees. The Commission assures us that our opinion will influence (let's hope moderate) their approach to these discretionary powers. The Academy has been warning you about these powers for some time and now that time has come.

You have got plenty of time to respond to the consultation and the Academy urges all charities in Leeds to take this opportunity to do so. We have a multi ethnic and multi faith charity sector in Leeds and the fear is that some charities will be affected more than others.
