Volunteering projects reaching out at Bracken Court supported housing event

Giving Time meets Bracken Court project.

VAL staff at event

Ralph Berry and Brendan Tammam from Giving Time and had a very successful stall at Riverside Housing’s Bracken Court project“s open day on Wednesday 19 September. Helped by Chris Bulmer who works at Volunteer Centre Leeds based at the Leeds One Stop Centre on Great George Street, the team made links with a range of other projects and met people who are living at Bracken Court to help them find new opportunities in Volunteering in Leeds.

Giving Time and Youth Giving Time are working to give people who have a criminal record or (for Youth Giving Time) are ‘at risk’, a route into Volunteering. A wide range of opportunities are available. We also heard from volunteers who have gone on to support others, can help open up opportunities as well as making a contribution to the local community. The links with Bracken Court show that we are working to get people who are involved in rehabilitation and recovery into community based volunteering. This approach to Volunteering has a powerful impact in terms of improving lives and reducing crime.

Giving Time is a five year Big Lottery Funded project being delivered in Leeds by Voluntary Action Leeds.
