One code to rule them all

Kathy Faulks reports back on a Wrigleys seminar about the proposed new Governance Code.

lego gandalf The Good Governance Code has gone through a number of changes and will be published in the summer of 2017 as Charity Governance Code. The changes are still open for consultation. You will have to be quick though. The deadline is the 3rd February. Go to  The main changes have come about because a lot has happened since the last edition in 2011. For example, Kids Company; fundraising issues resulting in  a fundraising regulator; Age UK and EON; payment of charity staff. The biggest change is that there will be one universal code. There will not be an additional code for smaller charities. Therefore, in my view, the one code needs to be written in Plain English. The seven principles of the code are:
  1. Purpose and direction
  2. Leadership
  3. Integrity
  4. Decision making
  5. Diversity
  6. Board effectiveness
  7. Open and accountable
Why not take 30 minutes to have  a look at the new code?
