Last week Leeds Volunteer Managers Network celebrated International Volunteer Managers Day 2019, bringing together an inspiring bunch of volunteer managers from across Leeds.
Tuesday 5 November marked International Volunteer Manager’s Day and here at VAL we brought together the wonderful volunteer managers of Leeds to celebrate. The awareness day is held annually and this year’s theme was “Change the Tune”.
An impressive 35 volunteer managers from across Leeds attended and the event was a great opportunity to highlight the vital work that this talented bunch does.
The event kicked off with a welcome from Andrina Dawson, Coordinator for Volunteering here at VAL, followed by a networking lunch. After everyone had been well fed, we separated into groups to take part in interactive workshops. The first session was focussed on ‘changing the tune’, challenging some of the negative perceptions of volunteer managers and turning these misconceptions into positive statements. The second session involved interviewing and getting to know each other, sharing skills, reflecting and recognising the importance of volunteer managers and supporting one another with wellbeing tips.
We thoroughly enjoyed the celebratory day and loved getting to know the volunteer managers we support a little better. One volunteer manager said: “Today has been an excellent opportunity to share ideas and frustrations. It was nice to connect and talk to other like-minded volunteer managers, I loved meeting so many people – thank you for bringing us together and hosting us so well!”
Following the event, we will be tweeting out the stories captured about Leeds’ fabulous network of volunteer managers, so look out for them and follow us on twitter - @VolunteerLeeds
VAL will be holding an event next year to celebrate International Volunteer Managers Day 2020, we hope to see you there!
