About the programme
Community Care Volunteering is a city-wide volunteer programme operating across Leeds, to ensure systems are in place to care for people and communities during the COVID-19 outbreak. The programme is coordinated by Leeds City Council and Voluntary Action Leeds (VAL) - a registered charity, working all year round to support a thriving voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in Leeds.
A coordinated effort is important to ensure that the most vulnerable people receive help and that all volunteers and recipients of support are safe.
The programme is designed so that people can volunteer in a range of different roles, depending on availability and preference. Volunteers can offer practical support for vulnerable people (such as shopping deliveries, preparing meals, making check-in phone calls) or can sign-up as an informal volunteer to help within their own neighbourhood in more general ways. The Leeds City Council helpline is available so that people in need of support can call 0113 378 1877 to be matched with a local volunteer who can help.
Over 7,600 people have signed up to the volunteer programme, to help vulnerable people across Leeds. Our teams and community hubs are now working hard to match volunteers up with individuals and communities that require support and in order to do this, we have paused the recruitment of new volunteers at the moment. We may look to recruit more volunteers as roles are filled and demand increases and will keep this page updated.
If you would like to be added to our volunteer waiting list, please submit your name and email address on the link below and we“ll contact you as more opportunities to help arise.
In the meantime, there are other ways you can support your community. Our 'Being a Good Neighbour Pack' is available to anyone, offering tips and guidance on how to help your neighbours. We will also be posting reguarly on the Doing Good Leeds blog about ways to help in the community.
If you have signed-up to volunteer but are no longer able to take part, please inform us by emailing email@example.com.
Other ways to support communities
Whilst volunteer recruitment has been paused, there are other ways you can support communities in Leeds. Leeds Community Foundation has launched a fund to support charities and community groups across Leeds that are experiencing exceptional difficulties operating as a result of the National Emergency measures resulting from COVID-19. Leeds Community Foundation distributes grants, shares advice and uses specialist knowledge to help community projects thrive.
