This is an exciting opportunity to lead a unique and long established educational charity in the heart of Leeds. Swarthmore delivers high quality learning to people of all ages and abilities throughout the year, as well as being a resource for individuals, organisations and community groups, for whom we provide meeting and events space. You will have a passion for education, as well as the business acumen and leadership skills needed to develop and carry forward this vibrant organisation  

Working closely with trustees and the management team, you will guide an education centre with a turnover of £1.6m and over 100 staff and volunteers to deliver life changing education to more than 1800 students annually. The trustees are looking for an inspirational leader and fully able to motivate and manage a diverse workforce with the vision to enable Swarthmore to have an influential local and national voice in the provision of lifelong learning. 

Key responsibilities:
* Take responsibility for strategic and financial planning
* Take responsibility for the monitoring and delivery of all contracts
* Lead and manage all aspects of Swarthmore's learning service, educational programmes and other services and resources
* Lead on quality assurance processes, including taking up the role of Ofsted nominee
* Identify funding and successfully apply for opportunities to maximise income generation to enhance Swarthmore's future sustainability
* Take a proactive lead on working with a range of learning providers, partners and voluntary organisations to share best practice, maximise resources and develop the best possible learning opportunities
* Represent Swarthmore on citywide management boards
* Oversee all physical resources and the maintenance of a Grade 2 listed building  

The ideal candidate will have:
* Degree or equivalent professional qualification
* Commitment to diversity and equality of opportunity
* Management experience with HR issues in an education setting and a good knowledge of changes being implemented across the sector
* Sound understanding of the Common Inspection Framework and other standards e.g. Matrix, Investors in People
* Effective organisational and administrative skills to support learning and quality assurance processes, awarding body requirements and Swarthmore Council requirements
* Good understanding of post 16 funding, including an understanding of Government funding methodology and procurement processes
