Age UK Leeds is a leading local voluntary sector organisation providing high quality services to improve the health and wellbeing of older people in Leeds.
Age UK Leeds works in partnership with Advonet providing an advocacy service which provides free, independent confidential advice and support for people who need support to stand up for what they want in life, especially at times of major change.
Support is offered for community care issues, access to legal advice, housing issues, advice on nursing and residential homes, elder abuse and safeguarding issues.
Salary £24,799 - £26,317 pro rata + pension
21 Hours per week - 3 days per week
As a Lead Advocate you will be responsible for: Using your specialist knowledge and proven advocacy skills to deliver advocacy particularly in more complex cases primarily within a specialist (e.g. IMCA) service area, though over time you will be expected to work across all the advocacy disciplines and be able to cover or potentially move to another advocacy specialism altogether, as required. Working as part of the community advocacy team however the role will require you to be the champion of older people with the Advonet Advocacy Consortium.Mentoring volunteers, new advocates and advocates working in other disciplines; as well as a source of support to external partner agencies who provide advocacy. It is expected that a proportion of your time will be spent on developing Consortium services with support Advocacy Managers. This may be an activity such as helping to develop new ideas to address unmet needs, your role as a champion for older people, promoting client involvement or helping to set up new projects. As well activities such as developing and delivering training (internal or external), awareness sessions, representing Age UK Leeds and the Consortium at external meetings such as Partnership Boards or challenging health and social care organisations to learn from trends we have identified or other similar activities.
