GIPSIL is a Leeds based voluntary organisation working with local communities and supporting young people to reach independence. Are you interested in working with young people?

This is an exciting opportunity for the successful applicants to Join GIPSIL’s Leaving Care, Flagship and Archway Services to deliver housing support to young people across the city of Leeds.

As a support worker you will make a real difference as you help and advise the young people we support and accommodate to achieve their potential. As well as an understanding of tenancy support, the successful applicant must demonstrate some comprehension of the issues faced by young people especially those with care experience.

Although relevant experience is preferable, most important is that you’re able to engage with young people we work with. Flexible working may be required which would involve some on call evenings and weekends.

The main responsibilities of the post include: -

To support young people to make better and more informed choices and provide the support that allows them to consider their options and maintain their independence.

To take referrals for the scheme, when appropriate, from individuals and other agency workers and complete a thorough Needs and Risk Assessment for each referral.

You will ensure that the service offered reflects best practice and provides a service that is sensitive to the young person’s needs built on a no-wrong door approach.

To work restoratively with the young person to address challenging behaviour and give feedback on successes.

To work in a manner that reflects the professional boundaries of the role.

Build professional supportive relationships with young people, introduce them to opportunities in their community as identified in the young person’s support plan (e.g. leisure, education, training etc.) and support to attend when required.

To work positively with a young person around issues such as poor motivation and low expectations/aspirations/ emotional support/confidence building.
