Purpose of Role To recruit, support and develop volunteers involved with New Wortley Community Centre. To ensure that the centre develops relationships with organisations to create an effective network of reliable volunteers that support its various projects and services To ensure that volunteers are efficiently utilised for the fulfilment of the aims of the organisations aims and objectives 

Management Supervision and Guidance                                                                

You will be responsible to the Building Blocks Manager for your daily tasks and duties

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Source, recruit and induct volunteers using a variety of techniques and media
  • Develop relationships with organisations who look to provide volunteering opportunities for their service users.  Identify opportunities to provide volunteering placements within NWCC
  • Interview potential volunteers and collect information from them to ensure effective matching of roles to skills
  • Arrange appropriate training and support as needed
  • Attend community events to promote volunteering roles and activities and groups that take place in the centre
  • Engage in outreach work in New Wortley to identify residents who are “hard to reach” who would benefit from engaging with the centre or volunteering at the centre
  • To promote and develop Building Blocks as a ‘community health & wellbeing project’ helping to support individuals boost confidence and self-esteem through engagement of activities and volunteering opportunities.
  • To manage your time effectively to maximise output within your agreed hours.
  • To assist other team members with events, workshops, sessions and activities where necessary
  • Produce schedules for everyday activities
  • Assign responsibilities to the right people to support key projects and events
  • Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure that they feel supported and valued and the volunteering opportunity is well-placed
  • Keep detailed records of volunteer information and assignments.  Ensure that case studies are produced that evidence the benefits of volunteering to particular individuals
  • Ensure the aims, ethos of the centre and its actions are clearly communicated
General
  • Adhere to the NWCA policies and procedures at all times
  • Undertake any other duties as appropriate to the post or which may from time to time be reasonably determined by the NWCA Manager for Board of Trustees
Experience required
  • Experience of volunteer recruitment and co-ordination
  • Experience of working for a community organisation
  • Experience of successful outreach work
  • Experience of building effective external relationships 
  Skills required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to identify the needs of service users
  • Ability to remain patient/calm irrespective of the situation
  • Compassionate and empathetic
  • Understanding of Equality & Diversity and ability to challenge discriminatory behaviour
