We are excited to have an opportunity to invite applications for the role of Citizen’s Advocacy Volunteer Co-ordinator within Advonet.
Citizen Advocacy is a partnership between two people, a volunteer and a person with learning disabilities who needs advocacy support. It is often a longer-term commitment where an advocacy relationship can grow.
A Citizen Advocate is a person who volunteers to speak up for and support an advocacy partner and is not paid to do so. The co-ordinators role is to create and support relationships between an advocate and partner.
This post will involve managing, supporting and developing the existing volunteer team, recruiting new volunteers and reviewing Advonet’s volunteer project together with the Volunteer & Peer Advocacy Manager. There will be some evening working and the occasional Saturday as you will be supporting our volunteers, many whom hold full time jobs.
We are looking for someone with a good understanding of the issues facing people with learning disabilities, a passion for advocacy and a good appreciation of volunteering. You will be part of the Asking You! Project which is about getting feedback from people with learning disabilities on services in Leeds, and empowering people with lived experience to be involved in all aspects of the project. You will support the project manager to build on the successes of the Leeds Learning Disability Peoples Parliament and the Good Lives leaders
To apply for this role please complete the Advonet Application Form and Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form, which can be found on our website here along with additional information about the role (CVs will not be accepted).
The recruitment panel includes a person who uses the service. They will be involved at the short-listing stage. In order to help the whole panel get as much as possible from your application form please make your application form as accessible as you can.
If you would like more information or an informal chat about the post please call on 0113 2440 606 and ask to speak to Claire Nixson or email email@example.com.
