Leeds Gypsy and Traveller Exchange (Leeds GATE) is an established award-winning and highly regarded sub-regional civil society organisation with a national profile. We are recognised as being innovative, brave and creative. Our members and other stakeholders have a wide range of communications needs including some lack of literacy and digital exclusion.
TNLCF has awarded Leeds GATE emergency funding to help us respond to the Covid-19 Outbreak. As part of this we have funding for this 6 months communications co-ordinator role. Leeds GATE recognises an ongoing need for this role beyond the period of current funding.
Everyone at Leeds GATE has a role to play in our communications including via word of mouth messaging and creating digital and written content. Our communications coordinator will provide a co-ordinating and processing service to the team encouraging members, volunteers and staff members to create and share excellent and impactful communications in pursuit of our organisational aim of improving quality of life for Gypsy and Traveller people across West Yorkshire.
You will work to deliver our organisational communications strategy including via facilitating a staff communications working group and supporting the CEO at the strategic level. You may also be asked to supervise and support a communications apprentice role when in post. You will be working alongside our teams to develop strong, coherent and persuasive messaging which inspires and engages community members; engaging politicians, policy makers and members of the public in conversation to tackle the root causes of inequalities faced by Gypsy and Traveller communities. As an organisation committed to asset based community development you will be sharing stories of our communities based in our skills and strengths as well as the challenges we face. You will need to be a confident communicator, enthusiastic about our organisation’s vision and keen to support members of Gypsy and Traveller communities to get their voice heard in the public realm.
