The role of Forums & Policy Coordinator is an exciting opportunity to work with students in making change at their Union, their University and in the City of Leeds. You’ll work within the Political Engagement Team (Democracy Manager, Liberation Project Worker and Forum Facilitator), and support other teams across LUU such as the Academic Representation Team and Student Activities on key projects. It will allow you to see and support a participative and deliberative democracy (that’s completely unlike traditional political structures!). It will be a great opportunity for you to develop your project management, communication and recruitment skills.
Tasks will include coordinating and servicing the Better Forums to ensure they are democratic and participative (this includes recruiting the Student Panel). Promoting the impact(s) of the Union’s democratic processes on students, and coordinating policy within the Union and liaising with staff, students and the Exec to ensure policy is delivered. A key aspect of the role will be working with students to develop their ideas, researching the impact of policy and developing implementation. You’ll support LeadLUU, as we work to increase student turnout as well as increase and diversify student engagement in our democratic processes.
You’ll also have the opportunity to work closely with Liberation Project Worker and Liberation Coordinators, supporting them on campaigns, history months and training – as well as developing ideas to take to the Better Forums.
We are looking for a highly motivated member of staff with an appetite for supporting and empowering our members, with a particular aptitude for policy development and research. The ideal candidate will be able to solve problems independently, have a creative mindset and be willing to work as part of a larger team.
We have great internal training opportunities and we are looking for someone who has a real passion for helping us make sure every student loves their time at Leeds.
As a student’s union we are closed over the Christmas holiday period and on bank holidays so we have the best hours in the business! We offer 26 days’ holiday (plus generous statutory and customary closure days) and a pension scheme.
