New Creative Arts Project for Parents

Arts organisation Skippko has been awarded Big Lottery funding to work with parents and families in Leeds using creative arts techniques and group work to help build confidence and self-esteem.

'Watch This Space' will enable parents to learn new skills, make friends and build confidence and self-esteem in a supported group.  The project aims to engage parents who find traditional courses too threatening and who would benefit by taking part in creative sessions that will develop people as individuals in a relaxed and fun way.  The project also includes, trips, exhibition events and signposting and progression opportunities.

Skippko has a good track record of engaging parents who might find traditional courses too threatening and who may have had poor experiences of education and learning.  Through our group work process we can support parents to become more confident and to enjoy learning together.

The aims/outcomes for the project are:
  • Parents will have increased confidence and self-esteem.
  • Parents will improve their life skills, including social, decision-making, team work, communication, negotiation and creative skills.
  • Parents will have higher aspirations and will feel more able to take up further personal development and learning opportunities beyond their involvement in the project.
