New Chair for Leeds ACTS!

Janet Spencer, Chief Executive of Leeds Housing Concern has been appointed Chair of the Leeds ACTS! partnership.

Leeds ACTS! (Academic Collaboration with the Third Sector), the pioneering partnership between the third sector and universities in Leeds, is delighted to announce the appointment of its new chair, Janet Spencer. 

About Janet

Janet has a wealth of experience in the third sector and the social welfare field to bring to this role.

For the last fourteen years she has been Chief Executive of Leeds Housing Concern, a leading Leeds third sector organisation offering supported accommodation to vulnerable, homeless people across the city, and before that she worked in the public sector in social services and probation.

Janet also has extensive partnership and representational experience; among other things she served for many years as a sector representative on the Supporting People Advisory Group, has been a member of the Third Sector Leeds (TSL) Leadership Group. She was also an Independent Member of the West Yorkshire Police Authority until 2011, standing down following the introduction of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Janet also has an interest in adult education, having studied as a mature student up to Masters level and following that up teaching evening classes for Further Education and lifelong learning.

All of this provides Janet with an excellent basis on which to take on the role of Chair of Leeds ACTS!.

About Leeds ACTS!

Leeds ACTS! represents a significant step-change in approach, building networks and extending academic expertise into the third sector to support strategic systemic change in the long term. Several projects are at various stages of development, and the next Leeds ACTS! event is currently being planned for February 2014.

As the chair Janet will lead on developing the work of the partnership with the support of the Partnership Group. Alongside the Vice-Chair, who is from the university sector; currently Gary Dymski from the University of Leeds. Gary will be succeeded in spring 2014 by Sally Hayes from Leeds Metropolitan University.
