VAL Project receives funding from Big Lottery Reaching Communities

Voluntary Action Leeds Prisoner and Ex Offender Project is thrilled to announce that it has received five years funding from the Big Lottery Reaching Communities fund.

The five year funding will develop and expand the project's work supporting people with convictions to access volunteering. It will allow the project to support more people leaving prison and in the community to access volunteering as a way to improve well-being, gain skills and confidence and reduce reoffending.

VAL Prisoner and Ex Offender Project is extremely grateful to all its partners, including staff at HMP Leeds, HMYOI Wetherby, HM/YOI Askham Grange and HM/YOI Newhall and the huge range of fantastic charities and public sector organisations who support this project either by referring volunteers or providing opportunities for people who find their convictions can be a barrier.

Celebration planned

The project is currently planning a celebration event which will be held in the summer to acknowledge this good news, whilst highlighting and celebrating the journeys of some of the 150 plus people who have used our service to access volunteering more easily.
