Volunteers are required for confidential study exploring thoughts and feelings related to suicide. £40 compensation
Researchers at the School of Psychology are seeking volunteers for a confidential research study aimed at understanding how thoughts and feelings associated with psychological wellbeing and distress relate to how people respond to everyday hassles.
We are looking for participants who have experienced suicidal thoughts within the last 12 months AND/OR have previously attempted suicide.
Participants must also be:
• Aged 18 years or above
• Fluent in English Language
• Willing and able to visit the School of Psychology on two occasions, and complete tasks at home over the course of a week
• Able to access the internet every evening for one week
• Free from recreational drug use in the past month
For reasons specific to the study, you must not:
• Be currently taking any steroid-based medication
• Be diagnosed with any hormonal or endocrinological disorder
• Have been pregnant in the last six months
• Work night shift patterns
Further exclusion criteria may also apply.
If you are interested in taking part you will need to complete a brief telephone questionnaire with a member of the research team to confirm whether you meet the study criteria. If eligible, you will be invited to visit the University for two short visits, approximately one week apart.
You will then complete the majority of the study independently in your home/work environment, and this will involve providing saliva samples throughout the day and completing an online questionnaire every night, for seven days. You will also be required to wear an activity-monitoring device on your wrist for the duration of the week.
Eligible participants will be reimbursed £40 for their time and travel expenses. You will also be given the opportunity to take part in two follow-up telephone interviews, one and six months after your initial visit, which will each be compensated with a £10 Amazon voucher.
