Urban farming social enterprise Growing Better starts trading its way to a sustainable future just four months after startup.Growing Better CIC is a social enterprise dedicated to better mental health through growing edible produce. Our urban farm site at Whinmoor provides a therapeutic environment for people facing a range of mental health challenges.
We starting growing trials in mid-May and are delighted to have now secured our first business customers! This is a key milestone for our organisation and we hope provides the foundation for developing a successful sustainable social enterprise.
Since startup in March 2016 we've focused on building the "enterprise" over delivering the "social" - because we need a viable business in order to deliver our social cause. To date we've been able to support a small number of self-referring clients on a fairly informal basis, and over the coming months we'll be developing relationships with referring organisations in order to support more clients. To help us deliver our social cause we're also looking for a volunteer coordinator.
In addition to growing, we're developing a small range of food products - for example pesto, based on our leaves. We're currently looking for volunteers who can lead on these activities, and for community kitchens to work in.
