Black History Month

The BME hub has decided the theme for this year’s Black History Month should be based around its founder Carter G Woodson 1875 – 1950.

Black History Month would not exist without him, driven by a passion for African American history, correcting inaccuracies and prejudice, one of the projects he initiated was Black History Week in 1926, this became Black History Month in America in 1976.   Ayaaba Addai Sebo started the initiative in London in 1987.   The BME hub will launch Black History Month on 3 October 2016 at Leeds Civic Hall, 6pm – 8pm.   A second event will take place on 31 October 2016 at Leeds Civic Hall, 6pm – 10pm bringing together all the events that have taken place across the city to celebrate Black History Month.   If you are doing something to celebrate why not let us know and we can promote through the BME Hub newsletter, you can upload details of your event directly to the Doing good Leeds website using the following link   https://doinggoodleeds.org.uk/
