Get On Track will be delivered over eight weeks, for two days a week
...It will focus on personal development and supporting 16-25 year olds into employment, training, education and volunteering. Previous programmes have included workshops on nutrition, budgeting, substance misuse, mental health, sexual health, developing employability skills (support with CVs, interviews and job applications) and regular sport and physical activity.
The programme is flexible and will be adapted to the group’s needs. Sessions improving self-esteem, body image and confidence aim to take the group into the next step of employment and training. There is a community volunteer aspect to the programme, the group will support a project working with young people in Leeds.
Throughout the programme the participants will take part each day in a wide range of sport and physical activities. As well as using local leisure centre facilities on past Get On Tracks we have accessed other sports venues across the city including The Works, Herd Farm, Leeds Climbing Wall and West Leeds Activity Centre.
Travel, food and child care costs are all covered during the programme and a bursary is issued on completion of the eight weeks to support their continued personal development. This will be the 8th Get On Track programme we have delivered in Leeds.
Previous participants have gone on to become sports coaches, lifeguards, learning mentors and youth workers. Others have been awarded art qualifications and secured and completed apprenticeships and volunteer placements.
