Go Higher West Yorkshire

We are….. a group of 12 Higher Education Partners who are looking to help young people ages 13-19 within Leeds aspire towards Higher Education and to be able to achieve in Higher Education.

What is Higher Education? Higher Education means any course, full time or part time above a level 4. This could be a course studied at college or university or an in work qualification like a degree apprenticeship.

Aims We work with young people and those around them who help them make their decisions. This means we will also work with families, community members and school and college staff. We want to strengthen existing links in the city and develop new if needed. As a truly collaborative project its about creating the links city wide so that if a young person wants to attend Higher Education the community is equipped to help them do so.

Our ideal is that… the idea of Higher Education becomes normalised for all young people so that they feel able and equipped to chose it is as a destination not that they have to make an active and out of the ordinary choice to go

Our ideal is that…. Young people should be able to get Higher Education support and guidance (or sign-posting) from whomever they choose in their lives (whether this be home, school/college, community) , to do this we want to help inform the influencers (teachers, community members, families) and upskill them to help support their young person.

Our ideal is that… links are strengthened or developed between Higher Education, Schools/Academies/College, Communities and Young people and their families so that everyone has the opportunity to make the right choice for them.

To do this we can offer…

  • We can attend events and ‘endorse’ your work on behalf of 12 local HE providers
  • You can refer appropriate young people to GHWY staff
  • Together, we can run bespoke events, e.g. family fun days
  • You can be our local experts: signpost us to interesting individuals, groups and events
  • We can deliver training events to members of your organisation and will be advertising city wide events also.
