Breathe Easy

The British Lung Foundation is developing a new network of 11 Breathe Easy peer support groups in areas of highest COPD prevalence in Leeds, over the next 2 years.

The aim of the Breathe Easy peer support groups is to help people living with respiratory conditions to access support to promote both their physical and mental health and to increase their confidence and skills to effectively self-manage their condition; so weekly exercise sessions are being set up alongside the monthly Breathe Easy Group. The Breathe Easy Leeds East Group has been running successfully and provided evidence that this approach works and helped get the programme up and running. In the last two months two new groups have been set up in the Middleton and Bramley area. The groups are open to anyone with lung conditions like COPD and their carers and relatives: people can self-refer.  Referrals also come through the Pulmonary Rehabilitation team, GPs, respiratory nurses  and other related health professionals as well as the social prescribing teams and voluntary sector organisations.  Ideally myself will be contacted first but people can just turn up if they want to attend the weekly exercise sessions then the exercise instructor can be contacted first.   For more information please contact Laura Able, Project Exec for the British Lung Foundation on: 07891 362 697 /
