The boardwalk and bridgeThanks to The Veolia Environmental Trust's Landfill Communities Fund and a remarkably perseverant set of volunteers, a brand new and long-lasting visitor resource is ready to welcome the public at TCV's Skelton Grange Environment Centre. Plus there's plenty more opportunity to get involved...
The new boardwalk and bridge at TCV's Skelton Grange Environment Centre is up and ready to welcome visitors, just ahead of the ever-popular A Winter's Trail events running on the 19th to the 21st December. It has all be made possible by the hard work of an amazing bunch of volunteers who now meet up every Monday and Friday at the much loved wildlife haven that is Skelton Grange.
"The new boardwalk and bridge are a real achievement, that lots of people have worked on over the last few months. Its been a tough job with lots of holes to be dug and some very difficult ground conditions - but its well worth it" explained Toby Roberts, Project Officer at TCV's Skelton Grange. "We chose to work in oak and recycled plastic so that the structures will last a long time, and will enjoyed be by thousands of visitors."
The Skelton-Veolia project continues with more chances to get involved in willow spiling work and habitat box making in the winter, and there's plans afoot to create a beautiful meadow of native wild-flowers in the spring.
The Veolia Environmental Trust was established in 1997 under the Landfill Communities Fund and supports a wide range of community and environmental projects throughout England and Wales. Veolia has supported this initiative by contributing over £72m since it was established, which to date has been used to award over 2,000 grants to various projects including Skelton Grange Environment Centre.
There's always loads of ways to learn, volunteer and play in the natural environment at Skelton Grange an Environment Centre, an award winning eco-centre and nature area in Leeds. More information can be found at www.tcv.org.uk/skeltongrange or 01132430815 or firstname.lastname@example.org
