Healthy Holidays

This fund will support projects that address Holiday Hunger in Leeds through promoting Healthy Holiday activities with a food component. Over 33,000 children live in poverty in Leeds; 20,000 children in Leeds are eligible for free school meals; 1/3 of parents skip a meal so that their children can eat during the school holidays. A recent report by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hunger found that children are returning to school in poor physical and mental condition. Clearly, this can have a detrimental impact on children’s mental and physical wellbeing, as well as their educational attainment.

Projects can cover all or part of the Easter and/or Summer Holiday in 2018. The food should be provided free at point of access but if an applicant feels it is appropriate, there could be and optional contribution.

The vast majority of the food should be sourced at very low cost e.g. through FareShare, Fuel for School or similar, see Resources below and the criteria for more information. Exceptions will be made for small amounts of additional food addressing a specific need (e.g. to cater for dietary requirements).

Please note that applications must come from community groups, charities or social enterprises. Partnership with schools, libraries or other statutory organisations are welcome but the grant recipient must be a third sector organisation

Leeds (Metropolitan District)

You can apply for a grant of between £500 and £2,500 for a 2-3 week (10-15 days) project or between £500 and £5,000 for a 4-6 week (20-30 days) project.
