Chapeltown is a vibrant place for Musicology and Social integration - Launched a NEW community partnership with Leeds Ukraine Centre and Local Residents
Chapeltown is a wealth of diversity and variant in its cultures, traditions and community. As an independent group of active community members we have launched working in partnership for the first time (2018) with The Leeds Ukraine Centre, located on Harehills Avenue, Leeds 7. As a community with diverse musical heritage as confirmed by Leeds Civic Trust we have founded the first Community Djembe Drum Circle. Held Every Sunday 6.45pm til 9pm only £4 per person Entry Fee. (Refreshments and Iftar provided and please feel free to bring vegan or veggie food to share with others). We are working together as an "collective community" to learn traditional Afrikan djembe drum rhythms and sequences with a view to enhancing our musicology and re-address social isolation and promote effective community cohesion and integration; whilst exploring and celebrating the "diverse" culture and heritage of Chapeltown; home to the first UK West-Indian Carnival. We explore all cultures and through the music and percussion appreciate the international community in Chapeltown whilst respecting our global ancestors as they have migrated in the area. Please come and join us every Sunday in an intimate cosy setting in the Heart of Chapeltown, close to local amenities and the bus service number 2, 3 and 46 stop outside The Reginald Centre Hub. The Entrance to the oldest Ukraine Centre and Community in West Yorkshire is at the front of the building on Harehills Avenue. There is a car park situated at the back of the building to which (The GOOGLE MAPS) take you however entrance is at the front and road side parking. Djembe Drums can be hired, purchased or repaired.
