Trans Inclusion training for Counsellors

Gendered Intelligence is delighted to bring to Leeds on 16/17 May its highly regarded two-day course "Working Alongside Trans, Gender Diverse and Questioning People" for counsellors and therapists

Gendered Intelligence is a not-for-profit organisation that works to increase understandings of gender diversity and improve the lives of trans people.

In 2017, we introduced a new Network for Counsellors and Therapists who are committed to providing positive, inclusive services for trans and gender questioning people.

This has been created in response to demand for more in-depth and specialist learning from therapists and counsellors themselves, and to the need of the wider trans community for a pool of trans-knowledgeable therapists and counsellors to draw on.

The Network is allied to a two-day training course, "Working Alongside Trans, Gender Diverse and Questioning People" that prospective members attend before being invited to join the network.  This course lays the foundations for trans inclusive practice and is a great place to ask questions, try out approaches and link up with other professionals with similar interests.

The course has already run successfully in London (twice), Manchester and Bristol and has received excellent feedback from delegates to date:
  • “I really, really enjoyed this, I am inspired and enthusiastic about continuing with reading, thinking more and being on the Network and Directory. Thank you all so much.” Claire Randolph
  • “Outstanding - somehow managed to cater to all levels of experience in the room without being too fast/slow/basic/complicated. Fantastic facilitation - very engaged and passion for the subject shone through.”  Ellis Johnson
  • "Really good link between theory and therapeutic practice. Really appreciated bringing real world into the room," Alex
Although we pack a lot into the two days, it is a starting point, and so the Network provides a valuable route to access ongoing learning, as well as the opportunity to be listed in a directory that trans people can consult when seeking support.

Gendered Intelligence works with around 500 young trans and gender questioning people each year through youth groups (including one in Leeds), mentoring, and art projects and we know they often struggle to access talking therapies that really enable open exploration around gender.

If you're a counsellor or therapist, or training to become one, and are interested in being able to meet that need, take a look at the full course details on our website at: http://genderedintelligence.co.uk/professionals/therapists-and-counsellors/training or the summary on this website at https://doinggoodleeds.org.uk/training-courses/2018/04/working-alongside-trans,-gender-diverse-and-q...
