Community Led Local Development Leeds

Community Led Local Development is ready to launch!

Community Led Local Development (CLLD) is ready to launch in Leeds! Community Led Local Development is a new way of funding the delivery of employment, skills and enterprise support using European Social Fund (ESF) and European Regional Development Funds (ERDF).

The programme will fund projects which support those who are furthest from the labour market into employment or training and will help to create new businesses and support existing ones.

There are three CLLD programmes in Leeds: Energising East Leeds, West Leeds Working, West Leeds Thriving, and South Leeds Together. There is over £3.3 million worth of funding available for projects across the three areas which cover parts of the East, West and South of the city.

All organisations within the third, public and private sectors can apply for funding to deliver a project, in line with the calls for applications that we’ll start to publish in October. Organisations who bid will need to provide an equal amount of match funding for their project.

Each area is led by a voluntary Local Action Group (LAG) made up of local residents, private, public and third sector representatives who will appraise funding applications and make the final decision on whether projects are approved. This money will be targeted at specific areas that are within the 20% most deprived in England and are facing serious disadvantage.

A Local Development Strategy has been prepared for each CLLD area which sets out the economic issues and potential opportunities, and what might be the best ways of tackling these locally:

There will be launch events in all three CLLD areas in Leeds in September 2018 and the first calls for funding will then be released in early October 2018. There will be calls for funding released at specific times to deliver activities that relate to the objectives from the Local Development Strategies.  The CLLD programme has huge potential to support some of those in the most deprived communities into positive futures and both the CLLD Programme Team at Leeds City Council and the Local Action Group are looking forward to seeing what new projects can be garnered from this funding programme.
