The iLearn package includes information, guidance and useful contacts to tackle modern slavery, one of the great human rights issues of our time.
Modern slavery is the illegal exploitation of people for personal or commercial gain. Victims are trapped in servitude, which they were deceived or coerced into, and feel they cannot leave.
As Kevin Hyland, the Independent Anti‐Slavery Commissioner, states: “Stripped of their freedom and exploited for profit, victims of modern slavery suffer immeasurable trauma. In few other crimes are human beings used as commodities over and over again. It is a human evil, horrifying in its inhumanity.“
Did you know, for example, that just over half of victims are female and that modern slavery includes sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation, forced labour and domestic servitude?
The iLearn package covers the following:
- Signs and indicators
- Different types of exploitation
- Victim care
- The national referral mechanism
- Duty to notify
- Useful contacts and partner agencies such as the Modern Slavery Helpline
- Useful documents and forms
