Apprenticeship funding opportunity – LCC Apprenticeship Levy

Leeds City Council has announced that they are transferring some of their Apprenticeship Levy funds to other organisations within their supply chain – including voluntary sector partners.

What is the Apprenticeship Levy? All organisations with a payroll of more that £3m are expected to pay the Apprenticeship Levy (currently 0.5% of their payroll). From April 2018 the Government made it possible for all Levy paying employers to transfer some of the Levy annual funds to other employers and organisations, within their supply chain, across industry and with city and regional partners.

What’s happening in Leeds? Leeds City Council plan to transfer 10% of their Levy funds to other organisations in their supply chain / who they partner with, who might benefit from employing apprentices. This amount is set to rise to 25% from April 2019.

What are the criteria? Any voluntary sector organisation wishing to submit an expression of interest should be aware of the following criteria:

  • Organisations should already part of LCC’s supply chain
  • Organisations should already be signed up to the apprenticeship service.
  • Organisations should be aware that funds can only be used to pay for training and assessment for apprenticeship standards – organisations need to cover salary costs
  • The funding can only be used for new Apprenticeship starts.
For further information and the expression of interest form, please see the documents below. The deadline for expressions of interest is 21 February 2019. Further information about Apprenticeships in Leeds can be found here.
