As part of a new partnership project called 'Together West Yorkshire', work is taking place to map Early Interventions across West Yorkshire.I am a Community Engagement Officer at West Yorkshire Police, and am contacting you in relation to a new partnership project being funded by the Home Office Early Interventions Fund entitled ‘Together West Yorkshire: A collaborative early intervention programme responding to serious violent crime’.
The project is a collaboration between the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, West Yorkshire Police, District Community Safety Partnerships, Youth Offending Teams and the Prison Service, and aims to deliver a programme of early intervention projects, with the aim of preventing serious violence within our communities. As you will be aware, vulnerable children and young people are a diverse group, who may face a wide range of risks. Early intervention has an important role to play in identifying those at risk, and preventing these outcomes from occurring in the first place, or in reducing the long-term impacts on a young person who has had a harmful experience.
As part of the project, I am co-ordinating a mapping and profiling exercise to identity the range and content of early interventions across West Yorkshire, delivered by statutory organisations and third sector community and voluntary groups and organisations. We recognise that Early Intervention addresses the physical, emotional or cognitive factors affecting young people. However, this exercise adopts a particular focus on those behavioural and/or criminal factors which relate to the current threats facing West Yorkshire Police and its partners, namely:
Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
Serious and Organised crime
It focuses on interventions which relate to children and young people in line with the National Police Chief’s Council definition of ‘children and young people’:
Under 10 years old
10-17 years of age
18-24 years of age
In order to do this, we have designed a survey to enable us to build a picture of the Early Interventions picture within West Yorkshire. We would be grateful if you were able to complete this on behalf of your organisation or service.
The survey can be accessed at https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/TWYEarlyInterventionsME/
We would encourage you to complete this as fully as possible so that we can help you to promote your work and any best practice across the county, and so that we can use the mapping exercise findings and recommendations as a basis for potential funding opportunities.
It may be that you are involved in an activity with children and young people which is a diversionary activity, even though you may not necessarily refer to this as an ‘early intervention’.
Please can you complete the survey by Monday 18th March?
If you have any further questions relating to this request, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
