Strengthening Family Ties – St Giles Trust is commencing a new 3 year project in West Yorkshire.
It will strengthen prisoners’ family ties, with the goals of preventing reoffending and reducing the negative impact on families of having a family member in prison. It will pilot ‘whole family’, through the gate support using a peer-led restorative approach. This will help those in the community to maintain a stable home life and the prisoner to be an active family member and parent.
The aim of this project is to build on the excellent families work already undertaken within HMP Wealstun, and add value rather than duplicate. As well as practical casework with prisoners and their families, the project aims to raise the profile of the issue and promote system improvements, for the benefits of prisoners and their families.
