Age Friendly Leeds aims to make Leeds a city where people of all ages can actively participate in community life, helping them to stay healthy, active and connected, even at the oldest ages.
What our members have to say:
“It's a very friendly group; helpful for networking.”
“Attending the group in itself is enjoyable, we always have a laugh or two. And it’s a good way of learning what’s available for the older people of Leeds.”
“I’ve met new and interesting folk, gone places I wouldn’t have gone otherwise and feel that I’m contributing to a bigger picture.”
“To stay in the loop, join the Age Friendly Group!”
Although we already have a great range of people from different walks of life we would like more older people to join us. It is important that the group represents the diverse communities in Leeds and so we would particularly welcome people who live in the South and East of the city, people who can speak up about the poverty faced by some older people, older disabled people and people from Black and Minority Ethnic communities. Of course any older person (over 50) who is willing to give some time to help the project will be welcomed to the group.
The Age Friendly Steering Group is part of the Friendly Communities project which brings together Dementia Friendly and Age Friendly initiatives to help make Leeds the ‘Best City to Grow Old In’. Friendly Communities is led by Leeds Older People’s Forum, in partnership with Leeds City Council alongside other local and national partners. It is part of the Time to Shine programme which aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness amongst older people. Guided by older people in Leeds, we have an Age Friendly Charter and we are working with Leeds City Council, the Centre for Ageing Better and a range of organisations, businesses and individuals to make the charter pledges a reality.
The Age Friendly Steering Group Meetings are held at Leeds City Museum, in Millennium Square. We will be meeting downstairs in the Denny Room (lift available) at 1.30-3.00pm on the following dates:Tuesday 25th June, Thursday 29th August, Tuesday 24th September, Wednesday 30th October, Thursday 28th November 2019. We can provide a taxi for people who need help to get to the meeting.
Come and join us or get in touch if you have any questions or if you want to request any other support to be able to join us.
