Volunteer Coordinator for MHA Live at Home in Leeds, Sue Oliver, is walking at least 2.6 miles for 26 consecutive days to raise funds for Live at Home schemes across Leeds & West Yorkshire. In the course of my ‘thinking’ time while on my regular ‘power’ walk in mid-May, I decided to undertake the 2.6 Challenge for our charity MHA Methodist Homes. MHA is the largest charity care provider in the UK, offering award-winning care, accommodation and community support services for over 18,000 older people throughout the UK through care homes, retirement living and community Live at Home schemes. Through our 62 Live at Home schemes nationally, we support older people to continue living a healthy, active and socially connected life in their own homes for as long as possible and we work hard to prevent social isolation and loneliness. We are fortunate in West Yorkshire to have a significant number of really dynamic schemes in Leeds, Bradford, Pontefract and Huddersfield with dedicated staff and an amazing community of volunteers.
Unfortunately since the lockdown restrictions began, local scheme income has declined dramatically while demand for our services continues to rise. So that we can continue to look after the wellbeing of our members and other vulnerable older people in our local communities, please help me to support our Live at Home schemes in Leeds and West Yorkshire through this fundraising challenge.
In addition to walking at least 2.6 miles for 26 consecutive days, I aim to engage 26 people to join me in this challenge as well as donating £2.60, £26, even £260 or any amount in between! I am delighted that some local Rotarians have volunteered to walk for us too.
