Talent Match: Leeds City Region

Information about the Leeds City Region Talent Match Project, which aims to help young people that are long term unemployed to get into work.

What is Talent Match?

Talent Match targets young people who are furthest away from the job market including those who are outside the benefits, work or training system and facing severe barriers to gaining the skills they need to get into work.

Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, the Leeds City Region Talent Match Project aims to engage with approximately 2,300 young people aged 18-24 who are long term unemployed and who require intensive support and coaching through a Key Worker approach in order to access a flexible and responsive pathway which will support them to get into, or closer to work.

Who can benefit?

Young people are eligible for the project if:

  • They are aged 18-24
  • They must have been unemployed for 12 months
  • They are resident within West Yorkshire.
  • Private, public and community and voluntary sector organisations can benefit by recruiting young people on Talent Match.  Opportunities for organisations include fully funded job creations - 30hrs a week over 6 months.

This research report is based on 12 young peoples’ focus groups across Leeds that engaged with young people (18-25) who were not in education, employment or training (NEET). The aim of this research was to access the views, issues and aspirations of young people who are NEET and to give them a voice in the development of the support that is available to them.
