Description AIM To enable participants to work more effectively with service users with dual diagnosis issues. It will provide useful information about dual diagnosis good practice guidance, and look at a number of helping strategies to enhance participants’ confidence in addressing difficulties. The course uses a number of learning activities (for example trainer presentation, group work, skill practice and individual reflection etc.) to help participants to have a deeper insight into the challenges faced by those with dual diagnosis.

Learning outcomes At the end of the course participants will: • Understand the relevant evidence base and good practice guidance • Have reflected on their own values/attitudes • Understand effects of substance use and its impact on mental health • Be able to undertake screening + assessment • Looked at a range of brief interventions to support change
Suitable for This course is aimed at staff who primarily support people with mental health problems or distress and who also misuse drugs/alcohol.
