First Steps in CBT

Description To enable participants to understand Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and apply basic CBT skills in their practice. It will provide useful information about CBT, key principles and practices with problematic moods like depression and anxiety. The course uses a number of learning activities (for example presentation, group work and individual reflection etc.) and will involve skills development exercises.

Learning outcomes At the end of the course participants will: • Understand and be able to explain CBT to others using the 5 component model • Understand how CBT explains problematic mood states • Have practiced basic CBT skills including agenda setting and problem lists • Reflected on how learning can transfer into their practice
Suitable for This course is aimed at any staff who wish to develop their understanding of CBT or who wish to consolidate their current knowledge.
