Description This course enables participants to work more effectively with service users with dual diagnosis issues. It will provide useful information about dual diagnosis, and look at a number of helping strategies to enhance participants’ confidence in addressing difficulties. The course uses a number of learning activities (for example trainer presentation, group work, skill practice and individual reflection etc.) to help participants to have a deeper insight into the challenges faced by those with dual diagnosis.

Learning outcomes At the end of the course participants will: • Understand what dual diagnosis is, relevant current research and policy • Understand the therapeutic, working alliance for clients with dual diagnosis • Be able to undertake activities that increase engagement with help • Look at strategies for change
Suitable for This course is aimed at staff that support people with dual diagnosis issues of substance use and mental health problems or distress.
