Working towards a city which is better for women, better for everyone

Women’s Lives Leeds is an alliance of women’s centred organisations in Leeds. It is the leading voice for women, young women and girls across the city and has established two networks: The Women’s Hub, and Vocal Girls (formally known as the Leeds Girls Hub), that aim to provide collective places for women and girls to talk, challenge and campaign about issues that matter to them in Leeds.

Who are the Women’s Hub and Vocal Girls and what do they do?

The Leeds Women’s Hub and Vocal Girls aim to provide opportunities for any woman, girl, independent or professional, or from any women centred group or organisation to contribute to strategic decision making and to influence and shape services for women and girls across the city.

They will enable engagement of the women and girls sectors and will drive forward the priorities for Women and Girls as identified by women and girls and make an active contribution towards the vision for Leeds to be “The Best City”.

They are part of the Equality Hubs Network and they both meet regularly and feed into the Leeds Equality Assembly, which is facilitated by Leeds City Council.

The Women’s Hub have identified the following as its five key priorities, which will form the basis of their conversations and campaigns:

  • Safety
  • Economic Employment
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Education
  • Voice and Influence

Vocal Girls have identified the following as its five key priorities, which form the basis of their conversations and campaigns:

  • Equality
  • Safety
  • Freedom
  • Opportunities
  • Diversity

Women’s Lives Leeds Vision:

“That many more women and girls in Leeds will have their needs met and be empowered to lead safer and healthier lives”

The main ambition is to make Leeds a better city for women by developing a Women Friendly Leeds initiative which provides information and ways to get involved that everyone can do to make Leeds a safer place for women and girls.
