The Volunteer Managers’ Network co-ordinated by Voluntary Action Leeds (VAL) is a practitioner led platform that welcomes anyone who’s role involves recruiting and supporting volunteers.  Through the network’s Volunteers of Leeds initiative the network champions wonderful projects that celebrate the diversity of our volunteers and the roles that they fulfil. It’s now time to announce our next ‘celebration’ project.

In partnership with Hyde Park Source, Creative Capture volunteers and the Leeds City Museum, we are pleased to launch a photography competition!

The winning photographs from each category will be displayed at the Leeds City Museum in the summer of 2026, and all nominees will be invited to attend. Winning entries will be chosen by a team of journalism volunteers from Hyde Park Source, who will be looking for images that are inspiring, show a diverse range of people engaged in volunteering as well as images that showcase the range of roles that volunteers deliver for communities.

There are 17 categories for photograph submissions and one winner will be selected from each category.  You can submit multiple entries under different categories, but will need to complete an individual form for each submission.

• Religion and faith volunteering
• Diversity in volunteering
• Health volunteering
• Environmental volunteering
• Arts volunteering
• Community engagement volunteering
• Sports volunteering
• Animal volunteering
• Refugee and asylum seeker volunteering
• Disability volunteering
• Equality and human rights volunteering
• Criminal Justice volunteering
• Homeless volunteering
• Student volunteering
• Addiction recovery volunteering

Please complete the form giving details of the volunteer, your reason for nomination along with media consent.  You can make several entries but will need to complete one form for each entry.  Please email your photograph and its caption to [email protected].

The deadline for applications is 1st March 2026
