Once upon a time, charities and community groups didn’t need to think about what story they were trying to tell – being a charity in itself was an easy sell.  Nowadays, with fierce competition for funding and volunteers, being able to engage with people on an emotional level has never been more important.  That’s where your case study comes in.  It’s a vital tool for telling a vibrant story.

 

A case study tells the story of a person, group or event. It is a structured approach to exploring ideas, explaining situations, demonstrating learning, reporting progress or celebrating your organisation’s success and the benefit for individuals, communities and other stakeholders. Case studies can also be useful for marketing and research.

 

This 2 and a half hour workshop will help you to consider issues of structure and the key elements of a case study – introduction, context, needs, description of intervention(s), outcomes and benefits. You will also explore tone and style for different audiences (e.g. funders, other stakeholders and organisations, individuals, families and broader community).

 

This free in-person session is suitable for anyone, worker or volunteer, from a charity, community group or not-for-profit organisation based or working in Leeds, who want to turn a case study into storytelling gold. Run by Marianne Kavanagh it is the first in a series of 5 free sessions delivered by the Royal Literary Fund in collaboration with Voluntary Action Leeds.
