Welcome Spaces – From 2022, in response to the UK Cost of Living Crisis, many local authorities and organisations across the UK established ‘Warm Spaces’ where people could go to stay warm. In Leeds, the scheme has developed over the last 3 years into a city-wide network of over 200 ‘Welcome Spaces’ offering far more than a crisis response.
The 2024/25 Welcome Spaces (formerly Warm Spaces) programme has once again demonstrated the strength and resilience of community-led support across Leeds. Evolving from a crisis-response initiative into a valued network of inclusive, locally tailored Spaces, the scheme has continued to grow in both reach and impact. Figures from this year show that over 65,000 visits were made to Welcome Spaces in Leeds.
This report outlines the scheme’s achievements and makes recommendations should funding be secured for the project to continue this winter.
