Online Objectification Survey: Participants needed

The online objectification project, led by Dawn Woolley at Leeds Arts University and funded by Include+ (EPSRC), examines girls’ experiences of viewing objectifying content online. Objectifying and demeaning content is listed as one of the top 10 harms experienced by girls and women in Ofcom’s Online Nation Report (2024). We are working with Getaway Girls in Leeds to explore these experiences and produce an animation that can be shared with young people to raise awareness and build resilience. We are planning to test the effect of the animation by surveying 150 girls (aged 16-18) in February/ March this year.

We are looking for organisations including schools, colleges and community groups that can help us share the survey with potential participants.

The survey will involve participants completing questionnaires before and after viewing the animation and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The first 150 participants will receive a £5 voucher. The questionnaires will be designed to assess the participants understanding, attitudes, and behaviours around objectifying content online. We expect that it will be informative and that taking part will help girls to identify objectifying content and develop methods of resilience against such content.

We are also keen to run some events at the end of the project to share our findings as widely as possible with girls, young women and the professionals that work with them. We would love to organise some sharing / training activities with schools and community groups toward the end of the academic year.
