Creating Safer Communities for Young People
The High Sheriff of West Yorkshire Fund has opened to encourage young people aged 5-25 years to work together to prevent and combat crime to create safer communities.
The Fund welcomes applications from community groups, charities, social enterprises or other charitable organisations across Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale and West Yorkshire, delivering a range of youth-led activities that focus on anti-social behaviour reduction.
Since its launch in 2017, The High Sheriff of West Yorkshire Fund has distributed over £127k, enabling groups to give young people a voice and help shape solutions for tackling crime in our local communities.
A pot of around £35k is available, with groups able to apply for grants from £500 – £2.5k for 1-year projects.
Some projects that have previously been supported by the Fund include: The School of Rock & Media – delivered a piece of youth-led music, drama and film project exploring stories of young victims of crimes such as cyberbullying, child sexual abuse, and sexual grooming.
Deighton Into Sport Project – ran a Midnight Soccer Club which utilises local coaches and volunteers, who can be good role models for young people in Huddersfield, providing them with the tools to grow in confidence and to be aware of local issues, as well as teaching them how they can play a part in reducing anti-social behaviour. Bangla Square Youth Project – supported young people to integrate into British Society by helping with their studies at school, reducing isolation and providing opportunities to try new activities.
Applications close on Monday 4th October 2021. Details here: The High Sheriff of West Yorkshire Fund | Leeds Community Foundation (leedscf.org.uk)
