Think Like a Pony
Think Like a Pony take home the award for Equestrian Business of the Year at the 2021 Yorkshire Post Rural Awards.
The organisation, founded by Lynn Henry, has dedicated over ten years of service to at risk children, focusing heavily on the therapeutic benefits of building relationships with horses and children’s natural horsemanship for mainstream children.
Think Like a Pony teaches all children how to communicate honestly and openly and how to build respectful and trusting relationships. Children learn strategies that promote emotional and social well-being, which translate to the home setting and educational environments. The flagship centre based in Leeds delivers sessions to over 160 children per week. The team continued to deliver training to disadvantaged children with social, emotional and mental health needs throughout all three lockdowns in 2020 and 2021.
The Yorkshire Post Rural Awards ‘celebrate the individuals, organisations and businesses who are the beating heart of the Yorkshire countryside’ – an apt description for this equestrian business. On receiving the award, founder Lynn Henry thanked her, “amazing staff” and cited their dedication to the company’s mission and ethos to empower children through horsemanship.
The upcoming years are set to see more from Think Like A Pony, recently having launched their online Club, making the organisation accessible to children anywhere in the world. The Club is an online virtual learning environment where children have access to both written and visual resources as well as individual feedback from instructors at the centre. Building is underway for the new Think Like A Pony centre in Leeds, due for completion in 2022, which will allow the organisation to increase its capacity and broaden the scope for delivery of these life-changing services.
