Voluntary Action Leeds
Voluntary Action Leeds is pleased to be able to communicate the city’s response to the war in Ukraine.
This recent message from Councillor James Lewis and Tom Riordan, shares information about the Leeds Together For Ukraine fund, which is being administered by Leeds Community Foundation, as a collaborative focus for the city’s fundraising effort. Resources are available below to support the communication with the sector.
“We wrote to you last week to express our shock at the events in Ukraine and our commitment to supporting the Ukrainian community internationally and in our city. This week, following discussions with the Leeds branch of the Association of Ukrainians in the UK, we have launched a citywide fundraising campaign to support Ukrainians who will be making Leeds home after fleeing the Russian invasion. People seeking refuge from war and persecution will always be welcomed in Leeds and we are proud to have supported people from Syria, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the world in recent years.
Leeds Together For Ukraine will help to fund accommodation support and other forms of assistance to Ukrainians arriving in Leeds, in partnership with refugee charities and other third sector organisations. It will also be used to further develop local support systems to ensure Leeds remains a welcoming and compassionate city for all migrants in the long term. The council has kickstarted fundraising with a donation of £50,000, and donations can be made here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/LeedsTogetherForUkraine. Please feel free to use the attached graphics to support the appeal as well as sharing the fundraising link. Thank you in advance for your support, and thank you to Leeds Community Foundation for administering the fundraiser.
The events in Ukraine have been extremely distressing to witness, particularly for people in our city with loved ones in Ukraine or who have experienced war anywhere in the world. Support is available for adults at MindWell and for young people at MindMate. Please reach out if you need to. A Service of Prayer for Ukraine was held at Leeds Cathedral this morning and livestreamed to YouTube.
