Leeds Prevent has become aware that in recent months there have been a couple of incidents where organisations, deemed to be extremist, have rented out rooms unbeknown to the organisation managing that space.
This can cause great reputational risk, upset and concern. It is really important that should you provide space to an individual, group or organisation that their values align with your values and ethos.
The recent incidents have prompted the Leeds Prevent team to highlight our Prevent Lettings Guidance. The lettings guidance has practical advice and tips for organisations/venues when taking external enquiries in order to mitigate the risk of undesirable bookings.
Included in the guidance are some simple steps to take including:
- Questions to ask when taking a booking enquiry such as ‘What’s planned?’ and ‘Who’s planning it?’
- How to undertake due diligence to confirm what you’ve been told and find out more.
- How to use the information collected to inform your decision.
Also included in the guidance are further ‘Top Tips’ to follow when taking bookings and when researching organisations/individuals online.
To receive the full guidance please email the Prevent team on prevent@leeds.gov.uk or 0113 241 3386.
