On Thursday 3 July in partnership with Leeds City Council, VAL celebrated small charities and groups and their vital work in communities across Leeds.

The event, held at the Civic Hall, was a chance for small groups to be recognised for their contribution and to receive a celebratory certificate and commemorative booklet from the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Dan Cohen.

Thank you to the stall holders who were on hand to offer advice and information to groups:

Also a big thank you to The Music House Community Gospel Choir for their performance.

The Music House Community Gospel Choir launched in April last year as a free and inclusive space where people come together to sing, connect and feel part of something special.

Led by MOBO legend Leroy Johnson and our wonderful Creative Director Christella Litras, the choir has quickly grown into a real family. Every week, they rehearse Gospel songs with a unique interpretation.

In just one year, they’ve already performed at the Lord Mayor’s Inauguration, Leeds West Indian Carnival, Leeds Playhouse, a Pentecost Sunday event in Settle and most recently appeared on Channel 5’s Winter on the Farm Christmas Special.

The choir means so much to its members and is a perfect example of what Music House is all about – creating opportunities, bringing people together and making music part of everyone’s lives
