A look back at LGBT+ History Month in Leeds

February 2021 is LGBT+ History Month, and the theme is ‘Body, Mind and Spirit’.

LGBT+ History Month is a month long celebration of LGBT+ history, and the history of gay rights and related civil rights movements.  It takes place every February in the UK, and aims to promote and celebrate equality and diversity.

There have been some great activities happening and we have loved seeing Leeds celebrate it with many online performances, talks and workshops. Many of the discussions taking place have been captured on the LGBT+ History Month You Tube channel.

There are still many ways to continue to get involved. The Leeds LGBT+ Bookclub meets once a month to discuss a wide range of books either written by LGBT+ authors or with LGBT+ themes.

Forum Central reminded us to visit West Yorkshire Queer Stories website. Over 2 years, West Yorkshire Queer Stories collected a wealth of stories about LGBT+ life across our region and these can now be viewed on their website.

On the 24 February, Women Friendly Leeds held an insightful panel discussion to raise the visibility and celebrate the diverse experiences of LGBT+ women in Leeds.

Project Freedom carried out a LGBTQ+ Housing Survey to get views on a purpose-built housing scheme for the LGBTQ+ community of Leeds. This survey is open until 14 March 2021.

Don’t forget to put February 2022 in your diary to celebrate LGBT+ History Month!
